Big news for Spincycle Yarns lovers: beloved yarn Dream State is getting a major makeover!

Formerly a 3-ply DK/light worsted weight, Dream State’s new version is now a 2-ply true worsted weight, adding more substance to your stitches. The updated construction creates long, smooth color changes throughout each skein, similar to yarn siblings Dyed In The Wool and Plump.
Let’s take a closer look at the new changes and discuss what they mean for Dream State fans!

Here, we see the original 3-ply version of Dream State on the left, compared with the new 2-ply version on the right. The new base is fuller and plumper, with less marling and longer, smoother color transitions. The yarn label has gotten a stylish upgrade too!

In this side-by-side swatch of Caitlin Hunter’s Easy V pattern, we can see the difference–in original Dream State on the left, the stitches are less full and more open, while in new Dream State on the right (knit at the same gauge), the plumper stitches are snuggled together to create a dense, firm fabric.
What does this mean for you as a crafter?
If you’re looking at patterns written for original Dream State (published before Fall 2026), keep in mind that new Dream State will stitch up into a heavier fabric when worked at the same gauge. Swatch first—if your finished fabric feels too stiff for your liking, you may need to adjust your needle size and do some pattern math, or choose a similar pattern written for a looser gauge (think 16-18 stitches = 4″ vs. OG Dream State’s 20-22 stitches = 4″). Keep reading for pattern recommendations!
Tip: Before starting a new project, do a quick label check to make sure your Dream State skeins are all the same version. (Plain logo = original version, swirly logo = new version).
What’s staying the same? Dream State is still hand-dyed and spun in Bellingham, Washington, from soft US-grown wool. Each skein is still 150 yards, still available in your favorite Spincycle colorways, and now in a 2-ply worsted-weight base that’s so bouncy it’ll have you floating on clouds!
The new Dream State will arrive here at fibre space later this fall, and we will keep you posted on when it lands! In the meantime, we have loads of the original Dream State—including in our exclusive Royal Mile colorway, shown below on Danielle’s Old World Sweater. Be sure to buy your favorite colorways of the old base now, before they disappear!
