Located in Toulouse, France, De Rerum Natura was founded in 2012 by knitwear designer Solenn Couix-Loarer to create yarns soft enough for her children to wear, with the beauty of natural wool and a close connection to sheep, land, and fibre growers and producers.

De Rerum Natura’s gorgeous, sustainable yarns are made from Mérinos d’Arles wool from France, black Merino wool from Portugal, flax from France and Belgium, and other ethically sourced natural fibers, spun and dyed in France and Italy with a firm commitment to traceability and reducing the impact of production on the environment.

Bérénice

Lace weight Bérénice is a unique blend of extra-fine South African mohair and organic French Merinos d’Arles wool, spun into loops around a strong, shiny silk yarn, then combed for a fluffy, voluminous look and feel. Worked up on its own, it creates diaphanous, frothy fabrics, and adds shine, softness, and a delicate halo to other yarns when held together. Ulysse

Sport weight Ulysse is woolen-spun from a blend of white French Mérinos d’Arles and black Portuguese Merino wool, sourced with concern for the well-being of the animals and preserving the unique breed-specific qualities of their wool. Light, soft and delicately fluffy, Ulysse’s 2-ply twist is perfect for colorwork, cables, and beautifully rustic lace, in colors ranging from natural undyed shades to subtle fleece-dyed heathers.

Gilliatt

Like little sibling Ulysse, worsted weight Gilliatt is woolen-spun from soft French and Portuguese Merino wool. Gilliatt’s round, lofty 3-ply twist works up beautifully in everything from stockinette stitch to intricate cables, easily forgiving irregularities in tension, resisting splitting, and staying securely on your needles, making it an excellent yarn for beginner stitchers.

The De Rerum Natura team says: “A cloud on your shoulders! The soft and light Brumeuil sleeveless cardigan designed by MarGueNée in Bérénice is knitted seamlessly with a pretty pattern on a reverse stockinette background and a neat i-cord border for the button placket. Bérénice is held double for a very cozy result and a project that comes together quickly. With its deep V-neck and generous armholes, it will be perfect for warming up a shirt that is a little light for the season and can also be worn over a tank top when spring arrives. BonBon Cardi Long Sleeve
