Danielle’s Obsessions: Vacation Makes Edition

Danielle’s Obsessions: Vacation Makes Edition

If you also need a new project for every planned trip / vacation…then join me as I go down a Ravelry rabbit hole looking for a new project to whip up before my next vacation. Nothing motivates me to finish something like a very unreasonable deadline for an entire garment to pack for a vacation. How could I possibly go somewhere on vacation to relax without stressing out and spending countless hours making something cute to wear first.

Due to the “slightly” cotton-obsessed yarnistas at the shop (ahem, Darian), we have a ton of cotton, linen and other breathable fibres in right now, so I had far too many options for this research project.

First up – my search for a crochet top. Yes, I do actually crochet. I find it to be much faster so this might be my go to if I run out of time on this project.

Triad Bralette

This bralette would not only be a great piece on its own with a skirt, pants or shorts, but it will also be a wonderful layering piece for fall and winter. The designer also has the Triad Top pattern if you want more coverage, or you could add length to this top for a less cropped look. For this one, I am eyeing Knitting For Olive Pure Silk or Pascuali Arctic Pearl.

Aruba Tunic

This would be ambitious, as it is Tunisian crochet, BUT this is an incredible beach coverup and worth learning some new skills in the process. This would look great in a DK-weight cotton yarn like Rosários 4 Re-Use or Rosários 4 Regata or even Mojave from Kelbourne Woolens. This decision should probably come down to which yarn had the color that matched a swimsuit the most!

I know I have the crochet skills for this. I do not, however, have the crochet commitment level to complete it—but I am OBSESSED. This would be so drapey and amazing in De Rerum Natura Antigone. The jewel tones in this linen yarn would be incredible and might even make this suitable for evening attire at a resort.

Harlow Cover Up

It has a high empire waistline and high side slits, reaching mid-thigh. She is wearing white pants underneath and has her left hand on her hip while looking off to the side with a smile.

OK, this one might actually be achievable for me, and I love the way it’s styled as a tunic here, so you can keep wearing it into Fall. This calls for a sport weight yarn, so I’m thinking Pascuali Suave or even De Rerum Natura Alice.

Should my crochet ambitions not work out, I picked a bunch of possible knit projects as well. D

I can think of literally one million ways to wear this on a beach vacation, and oh yes, there are matching pants. Will I knit pants? No, no I will not. But someone should. This would be stunning in a fingering-weight linen yarn like De Rerum Natura Antigone, or you could go totally decadent with Knitting For Olive Pure Silk.

Silent Bloom

This pattern calls for a fingering weight linen worked at a loose gauge – but hear me out here, I’m thinking raffia?

Whitecaps

This is stunning. The pattern is just knits, purls, and slip stitches, with the yarn held alternately single and then double. Amazing! This is designed for DK-weight yarn, so while we have the colorful Noro Ohajiki or Konpeito, I might lean towards a solid in Rosários 4 Re-Use or Wooldreamers Saona.

The Wonder Garden

The back button detail, with the lace side panels and subtle waist shaping – just gorgeous. This fingering weight pattern definitely calls for fibres with drape, so De Rerum Natura Antigone or Knitting For Olive Pure Silk are perfect choices here.

Thanks for going on this pattern deep dive with me. See you next month for more stitching inspiration!
