A few years ago I started working at fibre space as a way to keep myself busy in the winter when the fishing was slow. I got my start teaching a couple knitting classes and quickly found myself picking up “a few shifts”.  The next thing I knew, I was in the shop all the time. If I wasn’t out fishing I was at fibre space causing as much trouble as I could.

Fast forward to today and I’m looking at moving on. That’s right. I’m jumping ship (see what I did there?).  This will be my last week at fibre space as I’m taking a full time position with The Orvis Company. I’ll still teach a few classes here and there and I’ll continue guiding on my days off.

While I’m excited about the future leaving the shop will be bittersweet. I’ve enjoyed sharing my love  of knitting with everyone over the last 3 years. Looking back, I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been to watch so many new knitters cast-on for the first time. More satisfying still is watching everyone grow into such accomplished knitters. I’ll admit that being a guy working in a yarn store has been hilarious. I know things that I never imagined!  Novelties aside, everyone made me feel so welcome from my first week and I’ll miss the big family of customers and co-workers. Because so many of you have made fibre space your “home away from home”, I feel like I’ve watched little babies go off to school and grown along with all of you. I’ll miss hearing all the stories about travels and exciting life moments while clicking those needles. That was the best part of the job!
