Everyone told me that after the baby was born, I wouldn’t have time to knit. I didn’t believe them. I had these illusions of knitting while nursing or during some magical maternity leave that I didn’t actually get. I had many many illusions. The reality is that every spare minute that I have is taken with finding some food for myself and possibly taking a shower. I am juggling a tiny human and a full time business and it’s taking up everything that I have. I am somehow still knitting. But not anything huge. I finished this dress and matching hat for Maddy.
It is the Spring Jumper and Beret in Rowan Baby Merino Silk DK. The pattern is by Hannah Fettig and in an adorable booklet that you can get through Quince and Co. This inspired a shopping spree to find neutral colored tops and socks to pair with her new knitted wardrobe. At least I can shop the internet while nursing!
I also finished the Autumn Frock and Stripe from the same book, although I added my own twist. I included a lace edge on the sleeves and bottom, which required a little bit of adjusting on the stitch count, but not too much. I think it turned out rather cute! The yarn is Neighborhood Fiber Co Studio Worsted. If the temperature ever drops below 75, she can wear this before she outgrows it.
I never worried about what yarn was dyed with or how it is scoured and cleaned until I found that what little knitting time that I have involves my 2.5 month old chewing on my project while I am trying to knit. I guess I have to start thinking about what to knit based on its resistance to chewing!
