Must Make Monday: The CUBE tote in ISPIE® Raffia

Crocheted raffia bags are a classic warm weather accessory that are always in style. This summer they are especially HOT. Our dear friend Olga Buraya-Kefelian’s latest pattern takes this summer staple, flips it, and then folds it into the CUBE tote!

Inspired by origami, Olga has designed a collapsible cube constructed out of four granny squares and one solid square. While shown folding flat into a twisted cube style, the unique properties of Raffia allow you to customize the folding while steam blocking. Once completed, the CUBE tote will be a distinctive accessory you’ll return to again and again—and it will fold neatly for easy storage and packing.

The pattern also includes video tutorials—perfect for advanced beginner crocheters learning stitches and pattern reading and intermediate crocheters looking to expand their skillset.

Versatile and environmentally friendly, ISPIE® Raffia is a lightweight, durable fibre that’s easy on the hands. ISPIE® Raffia is made from 100% biodegradable wood fibre and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as forest-friendly raw material. We carry 38 shades, from natural to pastel to vivid bright and primary colors across two sizes: the hanks, which are 250 yards and custom-dyed in Italy, and the rolls, which are 273 yards. Picture of Heather

Heather

A family friend taught Heather how to crochet when she was a child, and she taught herself how to knit about ten years later. She’s had a hook or needles in hand ever since. Heather makes whimsical amigurumi and blankets, but also makes socks, shawls, and sweaters to highlight gorgeous dyes and fibers. She’s excited to join the fibre space community and to help more folks tap into their creativity!
