The city of Alexandria is unveiling its revamped public space along the Potomac this Saturday, March 30 at 10AM. This new Waterfront Park features swing sets, shaded areas with tables and chairs, a waterfront promenade and grassy open spaces for dog walking and for kids and adults alike to enjoy. The city will be continuing the celebration throughout the day and will also feature a temporary public art exhibit, Mirror Mirror, to kick off the first spring season of the improved space.
The Mirror Mirror exhibit features panels arranged in a circle that visitors can enter and interact with. The panels respond to sound with a show of lights and color. From the Visit Alexandria exhibit description:
Created by SOFTlab, a New York-based design studio led by artist and architect Michael Szivos, and inspired by Jones Point Lighthouse’s historic Fresnel lens. When illuminated, the panels remain mirrored, creating an infinite, colorful reflection that Szivos compares to “a forest of light.”
