Techniques
Crochet Chain Cast On:
With crochet hook, make a slip knot loop. Holding the knitting needle in your left hand, and the crochet hook in your right hand, bring the yarn behind the needle. *Bring the crochet hook in front of the needle, wrap the yarn over the needle and the hook, and pull loop through. One stitch has been cast on the needle. Bring the yarn back between the needle and hook and repeat from * until you have cast on the required number of stitches less one. For the final stitch, transfer the loop from the crochet hook to the needle.
Directions
Using Crochet Chain method CO 40 sts onto smaller circular needle or dpns.
Join to work in the round. PM for BOR.
Rnds 1-5: *K1, p1; rep from * to end.
Change to larger needle. Work in Stockinette stitch (knit every round) for 21 rounds.
Next Round: K20, pm, k20.
Crown shaping:
Decrease Round: *Sl next st pwise, k2, pass slipped st over the last 2 sts on RN, work to 3 sts before next m, k2, sl next st kwise, then slip last 3 sts from RN back to LN, take the 3rd st on LN and pass it over the first 2 sts on LN, then transfer those 2 sts to RN; rep from * once more. 4 sts dec’d.
Repeat Decrease Round 6 more times, changing to dpns when necessary. 12 sts rem.
Divide remaining 12 sts between 2 dpns, cut yarn leaving tail 12″ long. Thread tail through tapestry needle and close the top of the hat using kitchener stitch.
Finishing:
Weave in all remaining ends. Soak in warm water with some wool wash. Lay flat to dry.
