We are excited to announce the arrival of a brand new and very lovely yarn from The Fibre Co.: Arranmore. This tweedy Aran weight yarn is a soft and luxurious blend of merino, cashmere and shiny silk designed to look, but not feel, rustic. The color palette is inspired by the breathtaking views found throughout Ireland, with colors ranging from softer, more natural hues to bold, vibrant and unexpected shades perfect for adding a pop of color.
While this yarn is beautiful as is, its production makes it that much more special. Not only is it inspired by the wild Irish countryside, it’s spun there as well. The mill is owned by Donegal Yarns, the makers of beloved Donegal tweeds, and began production during the homespun tweed industry of the 19th century. Arranmore is the next chapter in this historic mill’s life right in the heart of County Donegal. With such a rich and unique background, Arranmore will become a staple is your heirloom projects that serve to keep not only Irish fiber traditions alive, but your skills as well.

Pattern Ideas:
A brand new collection from Kelbourne Woolens and The Fibre Co. featuring Arranmore is due to arrive on August 8th. While I can’t say much about the patterns contained within, I can say there will be some beautiful Aran Islands-inspired cabled patterns, as well as some equally fun unexpected twists. Composed of nine patterns, the collection will feature a lovely combination of sweaters and accessories. Each of the nine pieces draws again on the rich landscapes found throughout Ireland and on traditional Irish knitwear as well.
If you simply must cast on now, check out these ideas that are sure to stun as well!
