Dear Olga

Dear Olga,

I just can’t stop knitting your patterns. Every time I pick one up, I fall in love with the ingenuity and the beauty. Before I even cast on, I am swearing. Every pattern forces me to learn something new, look at things in a new way or use a skill that I’ve always known in a way that I’ve never thought to use it. And so I followed along with your sketches and swatches for Asanagi until finally the design was complete. And I selected my yarn excitedly:

And I opened the pattern and read through it and thought, OMG I can do this easily!

Sure, you had tips and tricks to making the garment extra perfect, but really nothing crazy about this one. It was perfect for someone who can’t pay attention long enough to make your patterns (ie ME)! Maybe the ease of the thing threw me off. Maybe I wasn’t on top of my game because I was taken by surprise with how straightforward this one was. But after weeks of morning coffee shop knitting, I was finally done with Tier 1 and ready to start a new color. And as I was counting my motifs to be sure I had enough, there it was:

That’s not supposed to take a sudden 90 degree turn. I’m sure that you know this Olga. Go ahead, giggle at me. I know you are.

I want to blame you for this one, Olga, but this is all on me. There wasn’t some beautiful delicate touch of yours that sent me astray. There was no difficulty in this pattern that caused my error. This was totally on me. So I guess I’m swearing again. But for once, it’s not at you my dear.

Signed,

Small Angry Person
