Greetings from space! Here’s what’s been going on around the shop this week.
New Arrivals
This week we received shipments of several great yarns: Kelbourne Woolen’s Knightsbridge, Terra, and Meadow, as well as new Laura Nelkin jewelry kits. We are also fully stocked on Nordic Knits, just in time for Eline Oftedal’s book signing and trunk show on Wednesday, November 12.

We are thrilled to be hosting Laura Nelkin this weekend! There are four great events to choose from. Here are the full details:
“Knockout Knits” Book Launch Party – Friday Nov. 7 6-9 PM
Join us to celebrate knitting designer Laura Nelkin’s first book – Knockout Knits! Laura is well-known for designing fun-to-knit little projects introducing advanced techniques with her signature “You can do it!” enthusiasm. In her first book, she shares her 3 favorite types of knitting using wrapped stitches, lacework, and beads. Laura will be at the shop signing books and meeting customers. (The book is available for purchase at the shop.)
Knitting Jewelry Workshop – Friday Nov. 7 3-6 PM
In this comprehensive Knitted Jewelry workshop you will learn a variety of techniques that will help you incorporate beads, clasps and jewelry techniques into your knitting. You will have a wonderful time with designer Laura Nelkin creating unique wearable knitted jewelry – most knit jewelry designs can be made in just a few hours. $65. Register here.
Knitting with Beads: Cha-Ching Mitts or Tam – Saturday Nov. 8 10 AM – 1 PM
Learn one of designer Laura Nelkin’s favorite designs from her new book Knockout Knits. Both this bottom‑up tam and fingerless mitts play with a modified beaded Coin Stitch ribbing. Master this fun, easily memorizable stitch, in either the tam or mitts, or maybe even both! $65. Register here.
Knitting with Beads: Shawls with Beads – Saturday Nov. 8 2-5 PM
This class focuses on developing bead knitting skills to prepare you to knit one of Laura Nelkin’s varied beaded shawl designs. Class will start with a basic overview on choosing yarn and beads, and basic beading techniques. Laura and the class will help you pick yarn and beads, and then you’ll be ready to cast on for your shawl! This is an interactive and FUN class with lots of hands on learning! $65. Register here.
Santa and Mrs Claus are coming to our shop on Thursday, November 20th and tickets for photographs with Santa are now on sale! There are still a few spots open, so be sure to grab your space asap. Classes
It feels good to learn new skills. We’ve got great instructors and interesting classes to give you a feeling of accomplishment.
Learn the basics of knitting with Introduction to Knitting. Our last November session starts this weekend on Saturday, November 8 at 5 pm. This three week class costs $75.
Ready to step beyond knitting rectangles? Learn to work in the round with our First Hat – Beanie or Beret Slouch Hat starting Monday, November 10 at 7 pm ($65).
Want to give lace a chance? Jump in with our Introduction to Lace Stoles, starting Wednesday, November 12 at 7 pm ($65). Learn to knit a classic rectangular stole from the designer, Dee O’Keefe.
Looking to tackle your first blanket? Chevron Baby Blanket is just the ticket. Learn increasing and decreasing during this one night workshop on Wednesday, November 19 at 6pm ($50).
Maybe you’d like to learn lace on an object for your home. Our Introduction to Lace – Lace Blanket class meets Monday, November 17 at 7 pm ($40).
Know someone whose feet look a little chilly? Our Beginner Socks or Stockings From the Toe Up will teach you everything you need to keep those feet warm this winter. This three-week class begins Saturday, November 15 at 1 pm ($80).
Want to try your hand at a sweater with color work? Our Fair Isle Pull Over Sweater starts Tuesday, November 11 at 7 pm ($80) and features a sweater inspired by a vintage pattern.
Learn the simple pleasures of timeless crochet with Introduction to Crochet – Granny Squares. This two week class begins on Saturday, November 15 at 10am ($60).
Looking to expand your crochet skills beyond the basics? Crochet Lace Hat is coming up on Sunday, November 9 at 3 pm. This two week class costs $60.
Love the idea of fingerless mitts and learning new crochet stitches? Our Crochet Fingerless Mitts on Monday, November 17 at 7 pm ($40) will teach you everything you need to know.

Knitting with beads has a long history. During the Victorian era it was very popular to make densely beaded purses with intricate patterns on tiny needles – 1mm thick! Stop by the shop to view Laura Nelkin’s modern beaded designs and enjoy a workshop this weekend.
