Notes from Camp Power Space

Notes from Camp Power Space

So last night was fun! It reminds me of why I knit. There is always something to do in a power outage if you are a stitcher. So what did you work on last night? I worked away at July’s knitalong…which will be revealed soon!

Old Town has power, for the most part. We went out last night at our house around 11 pm. I walked quite a bit of King Street this AM and the businesses have power. A few had security alarms going off (with no response from police or fire, oddly enough), but most have power. We have power! Even more amazing…we have internet and phone service. Yay Comcast! I am working on getting the front of the store cleaned up, as a couple of boxes from the trash / alley behind Five Guys managed to find their way to our block and explode packing peanuts all over the place. We packing peanuts are so much fun to clean up.

So if you don’t have power and need to recharge your phone (which I realize is probably your only connection to the outside world right now), or want somewhere cool to hang out today, come by the shop. We are here with cold water, free wifi and air conditioning.

Some friendly tips

(based on things that I may or may not have seen this morning)

1. You are going to want to let Dominion clear trees from the power lines in front of your business / home. Pulling the tree off of the line yourself will probably not result in what you think it will.

2. Driving the wrong way on a one way street is not super helpful to the traffic coming at you…and I am not sure how this is related to the power being out.

3. A blinking red light still means stop…just like a red light. Driving through it will probably result in someone being run over. (like me and my dogs, for example)

The mess outside the shop….promise it will look better by the time you get here!

This is probably why our power is out at the house. This tree is down on West St between Queen and Cameron.

A shame to lose such a large tree!

This car is sad! (Queen Street between West and Payne)
