Duane Park Knitalong Update #2

Duane Park Knitalong Update #2

A bit of an update, which you will see in today’s newsletter:

Be sure to share your progress photos on Instagram with #duaneparkknitalong. In addition to the $50 gift card that you can be entered for when you finish this month, staff will also select one lucky photo from all of our Instagram entries!

Now back to our project. Some of you have reached the stripe section. If you haven’t striped before, now worries. It isn’t all that difficult.

Here are some tips:

  • No need to cut the yarn at the end of each stripe. A simple two row stripe repeat doesn’t require this and doing so will actually make your edge a mess and create a ton of work.
  • Once you have started the second color, work down and back (2 total rows) in that color. When starting your next stripe, simply pull up the yarn that was left behind when you started color 2 and work with that for the next two rows. When you finish, you will be back where your other color is hanging, ready to switch again.
  • Make sure to leave a slight amount of slack when you switch from one color to the next and are picking up the lower color to start again.
  • Be sure to twist your yarn the same way each time. (For example, you could always pull the new yarn around the front of the one you are dropping or visa versa). I usually pull from the back but it doesn’t matter. Just be consistent!

If you are around this weekend, be sure to stop by the shop on Saturday to meet the designer of our project and show off your progress! Kirsten Kapur will be at the store most of the day signing books and teaching a workshop on this very project.
