First Socks for Furloughed Federal Workers

This class meets on ALL the following dates:

  • Thursday, October 9, 2025

This class is for furloughed federal workers who already have experience knitting in the round and following patterns. This class is not for new knitters. Students must be a furloughed federal employee or contractor.

2 two-hour sessions

Skills Needed:

  • Casting On
  • Reading Patterns
  • Knitting and purling
  • Working in the round
  • Increasing and decreasing

Skills Learned:

  • Small circumference knitting
  • Magic loop or flexible double-pointed needles

Materials (the registration fee will be converted to a shop credit for supplies):

  • Rye Pattern by tincanknits in any weight
    • Worsted Weight Pattern Available Here
    • DK Weight Pattern Available Here
    • Fingering Weight Pattern Available Here
  • Needles of the appropriate size for the weight of sock
    • Worsted Weight US 3 / US 5
    • DK Weight US 2 / US 3
    • Fingering Weight US 1 / US 2
  • Yarn of the appropriate weight
    • Approx 400 yards Worsted Weight Yarn
    • Approx 400 yards DK Weight Yarn
    • Approx 400 yards Fingering Weight Yarn (if the registrant chooses this option, Mitchell Wool has donated skeins of yarn)
