The advanced class will explore the cable technique more deeply. We will learn how to knit cables without a cable needle and explore more complicated cables. During this course, we will also discuss how cables affect the gauge and what you need to consider if you want to add cables to existing patterns.
Required knowledge:
- Basic knit and purl stitches
- Basic increases (m1L, m1Lp, m1R and m1Rp)
- Basic decreases (k2tog, p2tog, ssk and ssp)
- Basic cables, working charts, flat and in the round
Materials:
- Small skeins of yarn for swatching. The yarns should be preferably DK or worsted weight, for example, merino or other smooth fibers with good stitch definition in a light, unicolor colorway, so you can easily see your stitches
- Needles suitable for the yarn, for example, US 3 or US 4 needles. 16″ circular needles are recommended, or DPNs or longer cables
- a cable needle or an extra DPN in the same size or slightly smaller
