Origami Knitting Workshop with Olga Buraya-Kefelian

If you are familiar with 3D knitwear, you know there are various methods of achieving texture in hand knitting. In this class, we will dig deeper into combining several of these methods to achieve the unachievable: using knitting techniques that offer elasticity and malleability to create structured, crisp lines reminiscent of the ancient art of paper folding or other geometric iterations.

Students can choose to swatch only, or to put their newfound knowledge to practice and cast on either the YABANE COWL or COMPLEAT COWL patterns.

Skills needed

  • How to knit and purl
  • Casting on and binding off
  • Basic increasing and decreasing

Skills learned

  • Principles of 3D knitwear on which ORIGAMI knitting is based.
