Ever wanted to make a bulky weight project but worried it would be too heavy? Or perhaps you’re looking for a fun way to stashbust lighter weight yarns that doesn’t take forever? Try turning it into i-cord! In this workshop we’ll learn how to set up and use our i-cord makers to turn lace, fingering, and sport weights into bulky weight i-cord yarn. We’ll explore how to join new skeins seamlessly to create color shifting balls from leftovers, and how to estimate the gauge of the i-cord. We’ll also explore the ways this lighter, airier yarn can create fabrics for flattering garments and comfortable accessories. There are also some bonus tips on using the i-cord maker for quicker cast-ons and edgings in your regular knitting projects!
1 three hour session
Skills needed:
- Knitting and Purling
Materials:
- I-cord maker
- Small crochet hook (If you’re using the Tulip i-cord maker we carry in the shop, it will come with an appropriately sized hook)
- Lace, fingering, or sport weight yarn
- We recommend bringing in ~600-800 yards of yarn in any of the recommended weights. A mix of colors or weights is great! Avoid particularly fluffy or textured yarns like eyelash, chenille, or bouclé.
