Three 1.5-hour classes

Skills needed

Skills learned

  • knit stitch
  • purl stitch
  • cast on
  • bind off
  • “tinking” or working back
  • common knitting terms
  • full fibre education

Materials (all available at the shop for a 10% discount for your first class)

  • 250-300 yards worsted-weight wool, wool blend, or other natural fibre in a light color. We recommend Manos del Uruguay Alegria Grande or Ideal, or Kelbourne Woolens Germantown.
  • US #8 (5mm) bamboo or wood needles in straight or circular.
  • Darning needle or notion kit/set

*We recommend not using metal needles, cotton or acrylic fibres, or very dark colors, as they make the learning process more difficult.

Optional reading materials (one of the following)

  • Churchmouse Yarns The Learn-To-Knit Companion
  • First Scarf
  • Knit How by Pom Pom
  • Modern Knitting Daily Skillset

Preparation

Be sure to come to the shop early enough to purchase your supplies and wind your yarn into balls before the start of class (suggested 15-30 minutes).
