Introduction to Crochet

Learn the basics of crochet while making a pair of cute fingerless mitts with one of our amazing crochet instructors!

Three 1.5-hour classes

Skills needed:

Absolutely none! Our beginner class is ideal for those completely new to the craft or those who haven’t crocheted in many years and need a full refresher.

Skills learned:

  • work a crochet chain
  • chain stitch
  • reading a crochet pattern
  • terms
  • basic fibre education
  • how to keep rows edges straight
  • how to create three stitch patterns using only single crochet

Materials:

  • You will need 150 yards of worsted-weight yarn for each pair of mittens you make. We recommend Manos del Uruguay Ideal or Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok.
  • US H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook
  • darning needle
  • Optional: 2 locking markers to mark turning chains
  • Copy of Crocheted Handwarmers: 1 stitch 3 Ways by Churchmouse Yarns (available for purchase at the shop)

Optional Materials:

Preparation:

Be sure to come to the shop early enough to purchase your supplies and wind your yarn into balls before the start of class (suggested 15-30 minutes).
