First Hat for Furloughed Federal Workers

This class meets on ALL the following dates:

Learn to work in the round and make your first hat!

Skills needed:

The ability to cast-on, knit, and purl is required. This class is designed for furloughed federal employees and contractors who already have experience knitting.

Skills learned:

  • Join to work in the round
  • Increasing and decreasing
  • Refresh your knowledge of casting on
  • Working in the round on circular and double points

Materials (your registration fee will be converted to a store credit for supplies):

  • Two skeins of Manos Del Uruguay Cardo or 140 yards of bulky-weight yarn. Choose two complementary colors for stripes or color blocking.
  • Ring marker
  • US#10 (6 mm) 16” circular needle and double-pointed needles
  • US#9 (5.5 mm) 16” circular needle
  • Copy of Cardo Holiday Hat pattern (we will be making the color blocked version)

**Note: interchangeable needles are not appropriate for hats unless you have a hat-specific interchangeable set which includes shorter tips and cords to accommodate the small circumference of a hat.”
