We are delighted to be the partner for Old Town Books April audio book club! Join a group of craft-curious makers who get together twice a month – every other month – to listen to an audiobook and unwind via making: knitting, needlepoint, collage. You name it.

This month’s book and project:

This month we are listening to Rachel Hawkins’ The Villa. Emily and Chess, two childhood best friends trying to rekindle their friendship in their 30s, take a trip to Italy and stay in a villa with a complicated history. In the summer of 1974 it was rented by a notorious rock star and an up-and-coming musician with his girlfriend and stepsister. After a series of crazy events, the summer leads to the creation of one of the greatest horror novels of all time, a platinum album… and a murder. As Emily digs into the villa’s complicated history, she begins to think there might be more to the story of that fateful summer in 1974. Perhaps it wasn’t just a tale of sex, drugs, and rock & roll gone wrong, but that something more sinister might have occurred.

The project is a knitter favorite for travel – socks. We will be using this custom colorway from Freia (inspired by the 1970s vibes of the book) to make gorgeous gradient socks. Participants must have the following skills: cast on, knit and purl in the round and increase and decrease.

The kick-off meeting will take place at fibre space on Saturday, April 8 at 5:00 PM where we’ll hand out the kits, discuss tips and tricks for knitting socks, and make sure everyone is set up on Libro.FM. Then on Sunday, April 30 at 7:00 PM we’ll meet at Old Town Books to discuss what we all thought of The Villa and show off our creations.
