For coffee:
Misha’s Coffeehouse & Roaster
102 South Patrick Street
fibre space™ owner Danielle and her daughter Maddy make a daily two-block walk to this locally owned coffee shop for an iced decaf whole-milk mocha with whip (ask for “a Danielle” if you want to experience the same). Misha’s roasts their coffee beans daily on site, and the casual vibe inside makes it a welcome community center for all that is happening in Old Town. With Misha’s the experience is truly about the locals sitting inside…
For lunch:
Hanks Oyster Bar
1026 King Street
Just a block from fibre space™, this much loved and locally owned restaurant serves up fresh oysters, clams and lobster rolls. My favorite is the seafood cobb salad (with extra dressing!) and a ginger beer. Bonus – they have free wifi!
La Fromagerie
1222 King Street
On the corner, our local cheese shop carries artisanal cheeses, meats and wine. Almost all social functions at fibre space™ boast a cheese platter from owner and chef Sebastien Tavel. La Fromagerie’s dedication to regional farms results in a unique variety of irresistible delicacies. The lunch and dinner menu is delicious – sourcing fresh ingredients from Amish farms in Pennsylvania. Stop in this rustic shop for a glass of wine, a pork belly sandwich or a delightful salad of locally sourced vegetables.
Sam Phao Thai Cuisine
1019 King Street
Our favorite Thai restaurant is across from Nickell’s & Scheffler, with fresh and traditional Thai fare. Staff favorites include the Thai iced tea, Pineapple Chicken and Mango Sticky Rice (when it is in season). fibre space™ is guilty of ordering a lot of delivery from this restaurant, and we even inspired the manager to learn to knit!
For dinner:
Vermilion Restaurant
1120 King Street
This swanky restaurant (one block up) was the Valentine’s Day date location of our President and First Lady. The fibre space™ staff love to spend evenings in the velvety lounge with a handcrafted cocktail and a tasty hanger steak off of the bar menu. For a quiet dinner, grab a table upstairs and enjoy the locally sourced fare. And rest assured, knitting in this lounge won’t get you any strange looks.
Columbia Firehouse
109 South Saint Asaph Street
Located in a historic firehouse built in 1883, this restaurant’s atmosphere is one of the best in Old Town and definitely worth the walk from fibre space™. We recommend ordering one of their classic cocktails and anything on the menu involving bacon. For dessert, do NOT miss out on the Mint Icebox Cake. It is Danielle’s absolute favorite dessert.
For dessert:
Lavender Moon Cupcakery
116 South Royal Street
There are a lot of cupcake bakeries in our area, but we believe that this hidden gem is the absolute best there is. The owners source fresh organic ingredients, including Polyface farm eggs and butter. And you can taste the difference! Try one of their classics – vanilla bean with lemon curd filling or Mexican chocolate pudding. Or experiment with a fresh seasonal recipe like summer peach and basil. Be sure to get there early, as they close when the cupcakes are gone!
The Sugar Cube
1218 King Street
This sweets shop moved to our end of town a couple of years ago and we might never recover! This locally owned shop features truffles, gourmet sweets, imported licorice, gummy & nostalgic candy, Jelly Belly Jelly Beans & more. On a busy day, fibre space™ staff survive on their dark chocolate almond bark, chocolate covered cherries, chocolate covered marshmallows and raspberry truffles.
