Alice is a blend of Mérinos d`Arles from sheep raised in Provence and 25% linen grown in northern France & Belgium, specifically chosen for its softness. This incredible blend of Merino and Linen will become your go-to for year-round knits. As with all of De Rerum Natura’s yarns, Alice is organic, dyed using eco-friendly dyes, and GOTS certified, indicating that it has a reduced environmental impact. We are so excited for this newest addition to our shelves!

This week we’ve been welcoming Garthenor to the shop. Danielle has picked out some patterns that she loves for Garthenor Number 2:

“For those looking to show off the depth of color in the natural shades of wool of this yarn, these two accessory patterns by Ysolda Teague are my go-to. For those who need color in their life, may I suggest pairing one of these natural shades with Spincycle Dyed in the Wool for a vest like Pressed Flowers by Amy Christoffers. I also love Moonbumps by Maxim Cyr for a bit of subtle color variation while the neutral main color allows it to be a versatile accessory that coordinates with lots of outfits. For our crocheters, take a look at the Apple Blossoms Gloves by Vytene Laucyte that you could stitch in 2 shades of Number 2 for a neutral look or pair Number 2 with some color in Wooldreamers 90 Varas or Spincycle. Earlier this week we introduced you to Garthenor Organic Number 2. Today, let’s dive a little deeper into why we`re so excited to carry this brand!

At their start in 1999, no organic standards existed for wool yarns, so the folks at Garthenor worked to help write the first-ever organic standards for woollen yarns. In 2003, they became the first company in the world to produce fully certified organic wool yarns. Now, everything they do is certified to Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS). These standards cover animal welfare, chemical inputs, working conditions, and ethical standards throughout every stage of production.

The company is also Climate Positive, and offsets twice the carbon dioxide of every skein they sell. So far, they`ve offset over 50,000kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere - equivalent to over 128,000 miles of driving.

Then there`s the mill - Wales` first ever worsted spinning mill and the first new mill of any kind in a generation. Set up with machinery restored from mills all over Europe, they help bring these amazing yarns to life while also giving old machinery a new purpose.
