Have you met Aylin?

Have you met Aylin?

I have…and she is wonderful! A few weeks ago I traveled to Aylin’s Woolgather in Falls Church, the original LYS for Northern Virginia. Aylin’s has been around for over 30 years, “feeding the addiction” of the fiber enthusiasts, as she puts it. After several of my Arlington students came to class with fiber from her shop, I felt that I had to get out there and visit. The location is odd, to say the least. It is in an office building above the 7-11 in Loehman’s plaza. We literally got into an elevator and went to the third floor…down the hallway and there it was! But the staff were very welcoming, answered questions, looked for additional yarn, and I did score two amazing fibers while I was there:

Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend – a dk weight yarn that is a silk and merino blend and is LOVELY. I picked up a bunch of skeins in black to make a lacey cardigan…something that I am working on finding a pattern for now.

Recycled Silk Sari – made from recycled saris from Nepal (shown left). This yarn is really unique and very interesting. I picked up two hanks and hope to make a very cool scarf. I am thinking either the Opera scarf pattern or a ribbed scarf created by casting on for the length and working stockinette and reverse stockinette to create the ridges.

Aylin will be keeping a list of my classes and their supplies behind the register, starting in January, a huge help for those of you who live out that way and have struggled to find supplies. Tell her that I sent you!
