Greetings from space! Here’s what we’ve been up to at the shop this week.
What’s New
Freia Yarns Merino / Silk Worsted is here! We have a huge delivery of this brand new made in the USA base. Check out the new colors in this stunning ombre yarn. Read more about Freia over here.
Anne Hanson’s Bare Naked Wools landed. For a limited time, we have three bases available: Confection, 210 yards of a 100% Corriedale wool in worsted weight ($30), as well as Stone Soup in DK and fingering weights. The Stone Soup bases combine a whopping seven types of animal fur along with silk, bamboo, and tencel to produce a subtle tweedy appearance. Each skein of DK contains 300 yard ($30), and fingering skeins pack in 475 yards ($32).
New project bags are here! This week we unboxed a treasure trove of project bags from Underground Chic and Yarn Pop. All bags are available in a variety of colors and patterns. Underground Chic bags come in two sizes: medium ($30.50) and large ($34).

We have two styles of Yarn Pop bags stocked: Gagety project bags ($34) and clutches in small ($47) and large ($54).

We’ve also added discontinued colors of Berroco’s Remix to the sale bin. Stop by and check out the new arrivals.
Classes
Fall is here, which means winter is not far away. Learn to make all those warm and cozy accessories and garments to keep you warm and cozy when the temperatures drop.
Learn the basics of knitting with our next Introduction to Knitting session, kicking off on Sunday, November 2 at 12 pm. This three week class costs $75.
Looking to step beyond your basic scarf, try Introduction to Lace – Bulky Wrap on Sunday, October 26 from 1 – 3 pm ($40). This single-session class will teach you to make lace increases and read basic lace instructions.
Ready to step beyond knitting rectangles? Learn to work in the round with our First Hat – Beanie or Beret Slouch Hat starting Monday, November 10 at 7 pm ($65).
Comfortable working in the round and want to learn specific stitching skills? Try the one-night Butterfly Cowl on Thursday, November 6 at 7 pm ($40).
Our Fall Sweater Class will be teaching and knitting the Hawkes pattern. Taught by Danielle, the shop owner, this class begins Saturday, November 1 at 10 am. ($80)
Heard about steeking but the idea of cutting your knitting make you nervous? Learn the essentials with Steeking Techniques on Sunday, November 2 from 2 – 5 pm ($50).
If you’ve been wanting to learn to crochet, we’ve got a new session of Introduction to Crochet starting on Thursday, October 30 at 7 pm. This three week class costs $75.
Perhaps you’ve got the hooking basics down but wanted to expand your crochet skills, Crochet Lace Hat is coming up on Sunday, November 9 at 3 pm. This two week class costs $60.
Feeling good about your knitting and crochet skills but get a little befuddled when it comes time for finishing? You’re not alone. Learn Finishing Essentials on Sunday, November 2 from 12 -2 pm ($40).
Or, maybe you’d like to learn to spin your own yarn. We can help with that. Our two week Spinning 101 begins Sunday, November 2 from 2 – 4 pm ($65) and teaches the fundamentals of spinning with a drop spindle.
Events
The countdown to Laura Nelkin‘s visit to space is on! Please join us for a weekend of workshops and book signings on November 7-8. Laura will be on hand to celebrate the launch of her first book, Knockout Knits, with a book signing on Friday the 7th at 6 pm. You can purchase a copy of the book in space. Laura will also be teaching three workshops: Knitting Jewelry on Friday, November 7 from 3-6 pm, Knitting with Beads – Chaching Mitts or Tam on Saturday, November 8 from 10 am – 1 pm, and Knitting with Beads – Shawls with Beads on Saturday from 2 – 5 pm. Each workshop costs $65, and kits for the jewelry and Chaching mitts or tam workshops are currently available in the shop.
What’s Hot
It’s week four of the Fall Knitalong with Miss Babs! Your yarnistas and many members of the fibre space community are working away on our sweaters. Some of us are wrapping up the raglan increases, some of us are wrapping up the body. Wherever you are, it’s great to see everyone’s progress on their Westbourne (Kinu Love). Please keep tagging your projects on Ravelry and bringing your sweaters into the shop. We love seeing what you’re up to! And remember, if you complete your sweater by November 13, you’ll be entered to win free yarn!
