Thanks to inspiration from another Woolfolk stockist, this pattern has been up on all the yarnistas’ Ravelry accounts this week: The Howlcat by Alex Tinsley.
This is brilliant in both its simplicity and usefulness. What looks like both a hat and a cowl is actually a knitted tube, in two different weight yarns – a worsted, worked in a rib, and a fingering weight, worked in stockinette.
The cowl, well, I’m sure you get how that works. But to create the look of a hat, you simply need to add in a twist. Place the tube on your head in whatever layer you’d like to be the bottom layer (likely the lighter yarn), then simply twist the tube at the top of your head and flip what is now an inverted hat shape down on top of the other layer. Easy-peasy.
This would be amazing using both the Woolfolk FÅR (worsted) and TYND (fingering weight). Personally, I’m looking at the Pepperberry Knits sport — that’d be the 100% cashmere that made its debut in space earlier this year — for the lighterweight yarn option, which also has some really fun colors to pair with one of the gorgeous (and gorgeously soft!)
