Just Landed: Kokon Bleu Goes Pink

Just Landed: Kokon Bleu Goes Pink

Interpreting the emotive power of color in fibre form, Dutch yarnmakers Kokon Bleu create distinctive hand-dyed yarns inspired by art, nature and the beauty of natural fibres.

As the name might suggest, designer and maker Michelle du Plessis founded Kokon Bleu as a meditation on the color blue, with gorgeous shades from oceanic blue-green to deep navy in faded, semi-solid, speckled, and tie-dyed variations.

(Michelle is pictured with her Effervescent pullover and the Where Tides Meet shawl in Fingering Weight Non-Superwash, along with the Bouquet Sweater in DK Non-Superwash.)

Kokon Bleu’s yarns are spun with mulesing-free Argentinian Merino wool and dyed with eco-friendly, water-conserving methods—in fact, each skein is individually tagged with a water usage score.

Feeling blue? You’ll be happy to know we’ve just restocked their Fingering Weight Superwash, Fingering Weight Non-Superwash, DK Non-Superwash, and Aran Non-Superwash yarns in the shop (along with their new matching ceramic buttons!).

But that’s not all—October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Kokon Bleu is going pink to raise awareness and support for the millions of people worldwide who are affected by breast cancer every year.

Michelle says:

I was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer in 2019, and received a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy which proved to be very effective. I learned from the nurses on the oncology department that had I had my cancer 20 years ago, my survival chances would have been much lower because the combination therapy did not exist then.

I was so deeply grateful that I was lucky enough to receive this very effective combination therapy that I decided to turn Kokon Bleu PINK and support Pink Ribbon Netherlands by donating to this very worthy cause monthly and during each October my entire net profit from Kokon Pink yarn sales.

We’re honored to share this special yarn with you—we’ll have Kokon Pink Fingering Weight Superwash in the shop while supplies last.

(If you’d like to support breast cancer research directly, we recommend donating to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, National Breast Cancer Coalition, or Planned Parenthood.)

Michelle says: “Thanks to Elsebeth Judith from Denmark for creating this beautiful design using Kokon Pink in support of breast cancer awareness month in October! The word ‘Overgang’ is the same in Danish as in Dutch, and it has a double meaning—it literally means menopause, but also means one color blending into another.”
