Just Landed: The Polwarth-Tussah silk of Miss Babs Killington!

Babs Ausherman and her close-knit team at Miss Babs Hand-Dyed Yarns have been dyeing yarn in the mountains of eastern Tennessee since 2005, bringing vibrant color to their small Appalachian town. With a dazzling array of yarns in shades from stunning semi-solids to variegated “Babettes” and one-of-a-kind “Wild Irises”, it’s no wonder Miss Babs’ yarns have been a shop favorite since we first opened!

We’re delighted to announce that a new batch of Miss Babs Killington has just landed! This soft and lofty DK weight blend of Polwarth wool and tussah silk has a gorgeous sheen, lively hand, and wonderful wearability.

Descended from finewool Merino and longwool Lincoln crossbreeds, Polwarth fleeces combine next-to-skin softness and bounce with a long staple length, perfect for spinning smooth and sturdy yarns that resist pilling and keep your knits looking great season after season, while the addition of tussah silk gives a lovely shimmer to the dyed yarn.

Killington’s crisp definition and versatile DK weight are ideal for sweaters and accessories where you want your stitch pattern to shine – all that texture creates plenty of warmth-trapping air pockets without feeling bulky or weighing you down.
