Must Make Monday: Crail Cardigan, Pullover or Vest

Must Make Monday: Crail Cardigan, Pullover or Vest

© Rebecca Clow

We love a versatile pattern. There’s nothing like a garment that lets you choose your own adventure and also includes all the instructions to do so, and that’s Crail by Rebecca Clow. The pattern offers a cardigan, a pullover and a vest, all with or without buttons. The all-over honeycomb cable gives the garment a traditional look that can be easily dressed up or down. Wear the vest over a button-down, throw on the cardigan over your favorite dress, or toss on the pullover and your favorite jeans for a fall afternoon out and about. Personally, I think my wardrobe is missing the slipover vest for the office on chilly winter days.

The cardigan and pullover feature classic raglan shaping, and the vest is knit top down by picking up stitches at the shoulder for the front pieces. Because of this design feature, all of the Crail garments are easily customizable. You can shorten sleeves, or crop the body just by trying the garment on as you go. The all-over cable pattern is also easy to memorize.

Several skeins of wool yarn in fall colors of red, orange, and gold lie in a wicker basket, with two more skeins in shades of green resting nearby on the whitewashed wooden floor

We think that Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino or Rosários4 Folclore would be great options for this pattern. Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino is a tightly spun heavy worsted (Aran) weight yarn, sourced responsibly and ethically from Patagonia. The tight twist is perfect for cables, as they will pop with the crisp stitch definition this yarn offers. Folclore is part of the sustainable heritage collection at Rosários 4 and is entirely produced in Portugal, from sheep to skein. This workhorse yarn comes in a gorgeous range of heathered and solid shades, and its round multi-ply construction is perfect for every day garments like cardigans, pullovers, and vests that get worn again and again.
