Must Make Monday: Valley Rooves in Jill Draper Amalgam

Must Make Monday: Valley Rooves in Jill Draper Amalgam

I’ve fallen a little in love with the idea of the workhorse cardigan–the type of sweater you reach for again and again. A sweater that goes with every single thing I own, that’s not too heavy and not too light. With a design that is both interesting and timeless. Valley Rooves by Marina Skua checks all of those boxes.

This top-down cardigan features saddle shoulders, which carry the cabled design from the neckline uninterrupted down the sleeves. This design is also mirrored on the patch pockets on the front. The button band finishes with a shawl collar, giving the cardigan its timeless silhouette. The contrast contiguous edging around the hem and collar grant Valley Rooves a modern update. The button band is also completely customizable, so you can place the buttons on either the left or right, depending on your preference.

Knit in DK-weight yarn, it is also a sweater that will wear well in the Mid-Atlantic climate of the DMV. Valley Rooves is a sweater that won’t take ages to finish, but also has a few design features that make it both unique to wear and interesting to knit. We think its a must-have cardigan for handknit wardrobes.

We think Valley Rooves is the absolute perfect pairing for Amalgam by Jill Draper Makes Stuff. The cables will absolutely shine in a natural color wool, and the neutral pallet means a sweater that will match your entire wardobe. The four shades of Amalgam are made by varying percentages of undyed white Targhee and Black Welsh Mountain wool (which as you might imagine is naturally black). Made to be a sibling for Kingston, it has the same spinning specs: three plies, DK weight, and woolen spun. Amalgam’s multi-ply structure and mix of plush fine wool with dense and springy medium wool make it ideal for soft yet durable sweaters.

Heather

A family friend taught Heather how to crochet when she was a child, and she taught herself how to knit about ten years later. She’s had a hook or needles in hand ever since. Heather makes whimsical amigurumi and blankets, but also makes socks, shawls, and sweaters to highlight gorgeous dyes and fibers. She’s excited to join the fibre space community and to help more folks tap into their creativity!
