Just landed! The newest yarn from Jill Draper Makes Stuff: Amalgam

You know we love US-sourced sustainable wool – so we’re thrilled to introduce new Amalgam from New York’s Jill Draper Makes Stuff!

Jill says, “Amalgam was born when the farm in upstate New York that raises the Targhee wool for my Kingston yarn asked if I might be interested in some Black Welsh Mountain wool. I was indeed, and Amalgam was born. Made to be a sibling for Kingston, it has the same spinning specs: three plies, DK weight, and woolen spun. The four shades of Amalgam are made by varying percentages of undyed white Targhee and Black Welsh Mountain wool (which as you might imagine is naturally black). This next-to-skin soft yarn is bouncy, round, and retains quite a bit of lanolin, making it a dream to knit and giving it that sheepy smell we all love.”

Amalgam’s multi-ply structure and mix of plush fine wool with dense and springy medium wool make it ideal for soft yet durable sweaters and accessories with great stitch definition. Mix and match Amalgam with your favorite colors of Kingston for gorgeous colorwork or create the perfect gray-dient of natural neutrals.
