Knitting for Olive Pure Silk is baaaaack! We’ve been waiting a bit for this box to arrive. It went for an extended vacation in Jamaica, NY before returning to Denmark only to return back to us.
This silk was worth waiting for because it is an ethically produced. The little butterfly on the label indicates that the chrysalids escaped the cocoon before they were harvested, allowing them to complete their life cycle. Silk has extensive heat-regulating qualities, making it perfect for year-round garments. It can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture while still feeling dry against your skin, so it is especially suitable for hot weather garments. Check out what we are making with it. This year for Local Yarn Store Day (this Saturday), we`ve chosen to feature Jill Draper Makes Stuff & her USA made sheep to skein yarns! Jill realized that she wanted a closer relationship with the things she designs and began partnering with local farms in upstate New York to buy directly from the people raising the fibre. That fibre is then custom spun at local mills to create her beautiful skeins. Join us on Saturday as we celebrate Local Yarn Store Day, where we`ll have a sampling station of her fibres, a fresh restock of your favorite Jill Draper yarns like Kingston and many other`s to try! Also purchase some of her lovelies and get a jar of honey from Hudson Valley and a farm that also supplies Jill with some of her fibre.

Just in time for LYS Day this Saturday, we’re delighted to welcome back two of our favorite squishy, sheepy, and sustainable Jill Draper yarns to space: Ellsworth and High Plains! Made from dense, springy Dorset wool grown in upstate New York, Ellsworth is a true lace weight single-ply yarn. The sturdy structure of the wool means stitches will block into crisp shape and wear well for years without fear of pilling. Lace isn’t the only thing this yarn is great for – Jill recommends holding multiple strands together for heavier weight projects. Kitten-soft with a soft luster and an amazing drape, High Plains is truly dreamy! Spun from superfine (<15 micron) Merino wool grown in Montana, this incredibly soft, phenomenally squishy yarn is perfect for things you want to wear right next to your skin. On Saturday, our industry celebrates Local Yarn Store Day. Among the many exciting things happening here that day is our bag swap! Freshen up your project bag collection by bringing in 1-2 project bags (no simple totes please) to donate and you’ll get a coupon to use on LYS Day to take home a fresh bag from the donation pile OR 20% off a new (non-leather) yarn or needle storage item at the shop. We’ll donate any bags leftover to our good friends over at Project Knitwell or save them for future Furloughed Stitchers. You can drop off your swap bag(s) anytime this week!
