Harrisville Designs Nightshades + Spincycle Dream State are basically meant for each other, and we recently got a fresh shipment from Harrisville. So, of course, we had to choose the Potato Vodka pattern by Thea Colman for #MustMakeMonday this week. The way the colors in Nightshades pick up the colors of Dream State couldn’t be better! Plus, both yarns are sourced and spun in the United States. 

Harrisville Designs is a historic and family-run American yarn company and mill in Harrisville, New Hampshire, that has been spinning woolen yarn since 1794! Their Nightshades yarn is a DK-weight mix of American Cormo and wool in a range of shades of black (like pink, orange, green, blue, or purple).When paired with a bright contrast color, the subtle colors in this black yarn really stand out. Based out of Bellingham, Washington, Spincycle has been sourcing, spinning, and dyeing yarn in the United States since 2004. Known for their beloved color-changing yarns, the result of dyeing and then spinning the fibres, Spincycle’s Dream State is great for pops of color alongside solid and semi-solid dyed yarns–as you can see in the Potato Vodka Cardigan!

The sample shown in the pattern pairs Nightshades in the color Cinder and Spincycle Dream State in Miss Me, for high contrast on the body of the cardigan. We love the idea of using fibre space’s exclusive Spincycle Dream State colorway, The Royal Mile, with nightshades Cinder (shades of orange), VCR (shades of dark forest green) or Dashboard (shades of dark blue) to bring out The Royal Mile’s aqua, orange, and brown tones.

This cardigan is made flat in one piece, starting at the hem of the sweater and working up to separate at the armholes. The button band is picked up and knit at the opening. The technique used for the vertical stripes is mosaic knitting, so the design is fun and easy-going. Written with 4 inches of positive ease after blocking, the designer also includes extensive notes for modifications for a perfect fit. Potato Vodka will become a go-to staple with its v-neck and classic patch pockets. It can be thrown on with jeans for running errands, paired with high-waisted trousers or skirt for a comfy but stylish office fit, or worn with your favorite soft pants for lounging at home.
