Kokon Bleu: The many bases, shades, and dyes of Kokon Bleu!

Kokon Bleu: The many bases, shades, and dyes of Kokon Bleu!

Yesterday, you learned the backstory of how Kokon Bleu came to be, thanks to the imagination of Kokon Bleu dyer Michelle du Plessis. Today, we’re talking about the yarn itself!

Kokon Bleu is a luxury hand-dyed yarn brand that ethically produces yarn, with consideration and respect for fellow man, animals, and the environment. Sourcing most of their non-mulesed, organic, 100% Merino wool from Argentina, Kokon Bleu then carefully hand-dyes the yarn with high-quality, approved dyes. Each skein also comes with a clear water usage score, to ensure transparency about how the company is conserving important resources!

Here at fibre space, we’re now stocking  Kokon Bleu yarns in the following bases: Organic Fingering Non-superwash, Organic DK non-superwash, and Organic Aran Superwash. We also have the chunky Slubby Mohair.  More on each base’s details are below.

But back to the blue shades: we stock all of those bases in three colors. Each colorway then is dyed in three different ways: semi-solid, tie-dye, and speckles. Each base and dye processes shows off a different nuance to the colorway.

O-Bleu is named for the ocean, and has aqua and green tones. Below, you can see the semi-solid and tie-dye dyes.

Jean-Michel is a classic blue-jean blue with a hint of periwinkle. This photo shows semi-solid, tie-dye, and speckled versions!

Lastly, Bleu is a deep navy. This photo shows semi-solid and tie-dye effects.

You have to see these dyes in person! The combinations are endless. We’ve got more pattern recs over on our trunk show event, plus a Ravelry bundle with these patterns and more.
