Just Landed: Ultra Soft KINUA Hand-Dyed Peruvian Fingering + Aran

Just Landed: Ultra Soft KINUA Hand-Dyed Peruvian Fingering + Aran

We’re welcoming another direct import, this time from Peru! Rooted in tradition and guided by a commitment to sustainability and ethical production practices, KINUA is a small company that works only with renewable, biodegradable and recyclable wool, alpaca and organic cotton. KINUA’s name draws inspiration from Quinua, “the city of the hands that talk,” a small Andean town renowned for its artisans and handmade traditions. The phrase emphasizes the deep connection between the craftspeople, their skills, and the cultural narrative that the KINUA family of spinners, hand-knitters, weavers and artisans shares in every skein.

Sumptuous skeins of KINUA’s naturally hand-dyed Luxury Blend yarns are custom-crafted from Baby Suri Alpaca and fine Peruvian Merino Wool in both fingering and aran weights. KINUA collaborates with a small group of local farmers to hand-select small batches of the finest Peruvian merino wool. Each lot is scoured, milled, spun and quality controlled on-site, high in the Andes mountains.

They also add Baby Suri Alpaca, an adored and luxurious fibre. Its unique luster and incomparable softness make it ideal for the creation of fine, heirloom garments. Combined with their Merino Wool, it’s the ultimate luxury for knitters whose hands talk through each cherished project.

The exquisite colors concocted by KINUA emerge through an traditional dye process. Artisans blend and extract rich, harmonious shades —like the ones you see here—from a variety of leaves, Andean flowers, roots and vegetable byproducts. These botanical dyes are carefully tested to ensure the yarns remain free from heavy metals and synthetics. The result? An ultra-soft, mouthwatering palette, straight from nature’s pantry to your needles!

    Fleuriste

What better time to pair KINUA botanically-dyed Luxury Blend yarns with a flower and ivy inspired lace pattern? This gorgeous creation is worked on the fronts and sleeves with a lace pattern derived from a Japanese pattern found in Hitomi Shida’s 250 Japanese Knitting Stitches book. The cardigan starts at the ribbed hem and is worked in one piece to the underarms. Fronts and the back are then worked separately to the shoulders, which are joined with the Three-Needle Bind Off. The ornate sleeves are started at the cuff and knitted in the round. Once completed, you’ll own a soft, delicate piece that will have everyone around you sighing with admiration. For a seasonal twist, try it in KINUA’s yummy Pink Lemonade or Green Tea shades!
