Must Make Monday: Ulalaca

Must Make Monday: Ulalaca

We just got a fresh restock of WoolDreamers Saona back in from Spain, and I have selected an incredibly versatile design to feature in it this Monday–the Ulalaca vest by Rievive.

Why Saona…

If you haven’t picked up Saona yet, you really must. This incredible yarn is created entirely in Spain, using sustainably sourced Andalusian cotton and Manchego and Spanish Merino wools gathered from farms local to Wooldreamer. The fibers are then spun into a rustic 2-ply with a gorgeous heather that is an absolute joy to create fabric with. Working with this yarn connects us to the centuries-old traditions of sheep farming and wool production in Spain.

From Wool Dreamers:

Saona is named after the river where our founder’s grandfather, Julian, and his two sons; Teodoro and Ramón, would bring their mule-drawn cart full of wool fleeces. There, they spent the days washing the wool and allowing it to dry on the banks of the river in preparation for carding, spinning, and finally weaving to make blankets in the family mill.

Wool Dreamers was founded on a mission to support the Spanish ranchers by paying a fair price for their materials, to strengthen the textile industry in Spain while putting incredible, unique yarn in the hands of stitchers around the world.

About this design:

The Ulalaca vest is designed to be worn with positive ease and comes in two different length options. My favorite detail is the ribbed cabled edging around the armholes. Worked in Saona, the stockinette stitch sections showcases the tonal variations of this yarn and the amazing texture of Saona works beautifully in cablework.

I love the Ulalaca vest design for its versatility. It would easily fit into your wardrobe as a casual layer in cooler weather and as a tank layered over a flowy skirt or sundress in spring and summer.
