We are absolutely thrilled to welcome byLaxtons Yorkshire yarns to Space! Today, we want to introduce you to this amazing company, and why we’re so excited to stock their yarn.
This West Yorkshire, UK brand has a long and storied history, spanning four generations of the Laxton family. Since the company was established in 1907, Laxtons has survived devastating world and economic events by constantly adapting to changes in industry and technology. However, the family always kept the company’s West Yorkshire heritage in mind. Like many with textile manufacturers, production had been shipped overseas in the mid-1900s, but in the late 2000s, James Laxton brought all production home to Britain. Laxtons built a new factory in Baildon, West Yorkshire with state-of-the-art technology, and further shortened the production chain while using the longstanding traditions of the area.
At fibre space, we prioritize carrying fibres that are produced responsibly from sheep to worker to land, which is another reason we’re so happy to stock Laxtons. Working with British farmers, Laxtons then spins from 100% British wool in its West Yorkshire mills. The company also created Wooltrace, a group comprised of British farmers being paid fair prices who are committed to traceable, transparent practices in raising sheep and producing wool. A short production chain ensures that the yarn in your hands is truly ethically and sustainably made.
Until recently, Laxtons yarn was produced solely for textile manufacturing. However, in 2020, the company began spinning handknitting yarn for stitchers like us, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with our fibre friends. We’ll be sharing more over the next few days about these exciting yarns and what projects we’ve got in our queues. Stay tuned for more on our Captain’s Log tomorrow!
