Welcome back to the airy wool-cotton blend of WoolDreamers Saona!

We’re welcoming back WoolDreamers Saona this spring! Saona is a rich blend of Merino and Manchega wools, and Andulusian cotton. The fibres are woolen spun, so it has the structure to make heritage wardrobe staples with the lightness we love for the ever-humid weather in the DMV. WoolDreamers is one of our favorite companies for their commitment to revitalizing the wool industry in Spain. Each of their yarns is developed with a thoughtful process and a right heritage of Spanish sheep ranching.

From WoolDreamers:

Saona is named after the river where our founder’s grandfather, Julian, and his two sons; Teodoro and Ramón, would bring their mule-drawn cart full of wool fleeces. There, they spent the days washing the wool and allowing it to dry on the banks of the river in preparation for carding, spinning, and finally weaving to make blankets in the family mill.

Weekday Tee

Sizes

Sizes A (B, C, D) (E, F, G) (H, I, J) for actual upper bust measurements of 31 (34.25, 37.5, 40.75) (44, 47.25, 50.5) (53.75, 57, 60.25)”. Select a size based on actual upper chest measurement.

Finished Measurements

Garment circumference of 31.25 (35.25, 39.25, 43.25) (47.25, 51.25, 55.25) (59.25, 63.25, 67.25)”

This garment has an intended fitted ease of 0-3” / 0-7.5 cm positive ease at the full bust. It was graded for actual full bust measurements of 30 (34, 38, 42) (46, 50, 54) (58, 62, 66)”

The front of the finished garment is 0 (0.75, 0.75, 0.75) (1.25, 1.25, 2) (2, 2.75, 3.25)” wider than the back to accommodate bust tissue. Additional bust darts are available for those who need more room in the front.

The designer is wearing Size B. She has the following circumferences: 32” upper bust and 34” full bust, with 10.75” upper arm.

Choosing A Cup Size

Measure the intended wearer’s body from the top of the shoulder to the underbust line in the back and the front. This may require help from a second person. Be sure that the back and the front underbust points are parallel to the ground. It may be helpful to tie a piece of yarn or string around the underbust point to mark front and back.

Subtract the back length from the front length, then subtract 2” from this number (because the pattern accommodates a 2” difference already). The remaining difference is how much you need to add. Each subsequent cup size adds 1”. If you come up with a number less than 1”, then you do not need bust darts.

It’s better to have slightly too few short rows than slightly too many. If you are in between or unsure, choose one cup size smaller.

Cup Size 1: Adds 1”

Cup Size 2: Adds 2”

Cup Size 3: Adds 3”

Cup Size 4: Adds 4”

Cup Size 5: Adds 5”

Yarn

Choose a fingering yarn with some summer fiber blend in it, such as cotton, silk, or linen.

3 (4, 4, 5) (5, 5, 6) (6, 6, 7) balls of Wooldreamers’ Saona (240 yards / 220 meters, 1.75 oz / 50 g, 50% Merina Entrefina and Manchega Traceable Wool, 50% Andalusian Cotton)

OR fingering weight yarn in the following amounts: 710 (790, 880, 980) (1070, 1150, 1240) (1330, 1440, 1530) yards

Modifications:

  • For bust darts, add 20 yards for every inch being added (every cup size).
  • To lengthen or shorten body, add or remove 20 (30, 30, 30) (40, 40, 40) (40, 50, 50) yards for every inch modified.

Needles and Notions

  • A (Main Fabric)

    • US#1.5 16” circular needles
    • US#1.5 circular needles 32-60”, depending on size

  • Stitch markers
  • Unique marker for BOR
  • Smooth waste yarn
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

24 stitches x 30 rounds = 4 x 4” stockinette stitch in the round with Needle A
