We now stock a truly classic laceweight yarn: Jamieson’s of Shetland Ultra! It is Jamieson’s only blended yarn, made with 50% Shetland and 50% Lambswool. The Lambswool makes the yarn very soft against the skin, so it’s a wonderful option for garments, shawls and baby gifts that will last a lifetime. The blend creates both a lofty, airy structure that is also strong and holds its shape–perfect for your next Shetland lace project. The colors range from natural neutrals to deeply dyed colors, perfect for adding pops of color to your project or making a brightly hued shawl for cooler spring days!
This yarn comes from a special mill. Jamieson’s is a family-owned business that has specializing in wool from native Shetland sheep for five generations. The family is dedicated to the survival of this unique fibre, known for its strength and texture. The business began in the early 1890s in Sandness, on the far west coast of the Shetland Isles. The company is dedicated to maintaining heritage wool production and traditional Shetland handknits.
Come try Jamieson’s of Shetland Ultra during our April Yarn Tasting (registration opening soon), or book a space in the Shetland Lace workshop with Gudrun Johnston on Friday, April 11, 2025. She is a Shetland-born knitwear designer known for accessible modern-day patterns that are greatly inspired by her heritage. We are so excited to have her here to help launch this incredible yarn at fibre space!
