We are nearing the end of our 15th birthday celebration year, but I have one last special collaboration to share. For this one, I wanted it to be very local. We’ve got the one and only Olga Buraya-Kefelian teaming up with Gum Tree Farm to create the Starflock cowl kit, just for fibre space’s 15th birthday.
Designer Olga Buraya-Kefelian is not just known for her clever patterns that play with colorwork and creative construction—she’s known around fibre space for her sharp style and sense of humor! She’s been a friend of fibre space well before there was even a brick-and-mortar store. Danielle and Olga met over twenty years ago, and all of us are grateful she’s been part of the journey. Her special design for our 15th birthday is the Starflock Cowl. It’s constructed with a fun slip stitch pattern and tiny cables, and the yarnistas are excited to get on their needles! Olga designed the pattern with the beautiful properties of organically processed Merino in all three natural colorways to bring out the texture of Gum Tree Farm’s yarn for a stylish neckline accessory.
We’ve carried Gum Tree Farm’s beautiful Merino yarn in the shop, so you may have had a chance to work with it in the past! You also may have seen photos on social media about the yarnistas’ field trip there last spring, where we met some of Gum Tree Farm’s sheep and lambs. Our friends at this wonderful Merino farm hail from right down the road in Middleburg, Virginia. Established in 1995, Gum Tree Farm is a truly unique place – the sheep are born and raised on the farm, their wool is organically processed, and the fleece is spun at Green Mountain Spinnery.
