Just Landed – Sea Change Fibers

We’re delighted to welcome Sea Change Fibers to space! This yarn is part of our focus to bring you more breed-specific yarns.
Sea Change Fibers began in October 2016 as The Dye Project in Portland, Oregon. In 2017, they moved near Monterey Bay with a new name reflecting their location and commitment to social and environmental justice. Sea Change Fibers owner Sarah carefully researches and sources her bases from sustainable fibre producers, focusing on the environmental impact of the products she is sourcing.  All her bases are climate-beneficial wool traceable from the pasture to the mill!  We were first attracted to their yarns due to the vibrant color palette inspired by the colors of nature, especially those found in and around Monterey Bay and the redwood forests. The dyeing process at Sea Change Fibers involves careful and sustainable water and power use, yet results in rich saturated color.
Sea Change Montara Sock and Riviera DK are the first two yarns to land in space!

Montara Sock

Montara is made from 100% Corriedale! Corriedale is a heritage breed sheep that was developed in New Zealand and Australia during the late 1800’s from crossing Lincoln or Leicester rams with Merino females.

By Bob Nicholsderivative

This is the sock yarn for those who want to skip the superwash! This heathered grey base has all the wonderful characteristics of Corriedale in a smoothly spun sock yarn. It will plump up a bit more with its first wash than a superwash sock yarn does due to the retention of the scales that lock in air between the fibers.

Yarn details:

  • Fingering Weight
  • 100% Corriedale
  • Approx. 435 yards /100g
  • Hand wash, Dry Flat
  • $32 and in-store only

Ravine DK

Riviera DK is 100% Cormo Wool!! Cormo is our shop owner’s most favorite breed of sheep. Cormo sheep were developed in the early 1960s in Tasmania, Australia, from crossing rams of the Corriedale breed with Superfine Saxon Merinos. The name Cormo is from the names of two parent breeds, Corriedale and Merino. The resulting wool of both breeds is rustic yet soft, highly elastic, and plumply squishy—giving wonderful stitch definition and a great hand to garments and accessories alike.

Ravine is a 4 ply DK weight Cormo wool sourced from Great Britain. It is the perfect balance of soft and grippy with beautiful stitch definition. Squishing it is a must! Its bouncy spin is perfect for sweaters and any textured fabric, especially cables and lace.

  • 100% Cormo
  • Approx. 265 yards/100g
