Just Landed – Little Fox Yarns TrueWash Fine

We are delighted to welcome Little Fox Yarn to space! Located just outside Richmond, Virginia, Little Fox Yarn is a luxury hand-dyed yarn company owned and operated by Aimee Richardson Sulser and Brian Sulser. After a long career in Interior Design, Aimee looked for a new way to spread her creative wings.  In the Fall of 2014, Aimee started experimenting with her dye pot, and the rest is history! She fell in love with the magical mad scientist role that hand-dyeing yarn allows her to take on. Brian, husband and partner in crime, came to dyeing through his wife, Aimee. Music has always been his number one creative outlet, and he has worked as a trained jazz bassist for 30 years. However, dyeing (and packing, lifting, and toting) has given Brian another creative outlet to explore and bring a completely different thought process to the Little Fox operations.
The original “little foxes” were Rosie and Mabel, their two much-loved small dogs. Now Mabel is their little fox, who, along with her brother Stanley the bear cub and big-little sister Pip the Piglet, bring so much joy, frustration, and love to all of Little Fox Yarn. Aimee is often inspired for new colorways by the colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains where she was born. All of Little Fox’s yarns are lovingly hand-dyed in small batches to create a rich, glazed tonal color. It is important to Aimee and Brian that their colorways are livable and that you will want to be treasured in your hands while making a beautiful, wearable, finished object.

Little Fox Yarn TrueWash Fine

The first yarn that we have received from Little Fox is TrueWash Fine. It’s a perfect all-around yarn for sweaters and all the accessories, too. It’s a lovely rounded yarn with bounce and beautiful stitch definition. The TrueWash line from Little Fox offers the ease of a superwash yarn without the inherent environmental concerns of the traditional superwash process. Their TrueWash line uses a GOTS-certified organic compound to create washability; this base is non-superwash yet washable!

Yarn details:

  • Washable Fingering Weight
  • 100% organically grown merino, treated
  • approx 430 yds / 115g skein

We’ve selected some projects for both knitting and crochet that we think will shine in TrueWash Fine to help you seek out new projects for your queue.

Le Fleur Top

This is a round yoke colorwork top, worked seamlessly in the round from the top down. The colorwork is worked in a way that eliminates the jog you would usually get at the back of the yoke. Intricate, fun colorwork is thrilling to knit but with only 2 colors and not many floats – it’s truly enjoyable.

Foxy Sweater Scarf

Foxy sweater scarf is knitted from one end to the other to create a very long scarf with a sleeve on each end. It can be worn with the fabric crossing at the front or back and is a nice accessory to have with you when you’re not sure if you’ll get cold enough for a sweater. The stitch pattern on the body is very easy and addicting to knit! The ribbed sleeves are worked in the round, and the body is flat, with the border picked up as the finishing touch, and ribbing is worked for a few rounds. Great project for mindless or travel/car knitting!

Sizes: 1 (2) 3 (4)
To fit bust circumference: 32-40 (41-49) 50-58 (59-67) inches
Ribbed sleeve at elbow (stretched): 15 (17) 19 (21) inches. ( rib is very stretchy and sleeves are meant to hug – they can stretch some more beyond these measurements)
Gauge: 20 sts x 24 rows / 4in. in charted pattern.
Needles: Main size – long straight or circular needles in size needed to obtain gauge; Ribbing – DPNs or long circular needles for magic loop in 2 sizes smaller than main needle and circular needles in one size smaller than ribbing needles. (I used size US1 for the cast on, US2 for ribbing and US4 as main needle)

Yarn:
Little Fox Yarn Fingering in four colors
Yardage:
C1 – 368 (468) 568 (668) yds
C2 – 148 (188) 229 (269) yds
C3 – 180 (232) 284 (336) yds
C4 – 360 (458) 556 (654) yds

Picking a size depends on your preference of how much ease and ease of movement you prefer. The sample shown in the pattern is size 1 worn on a 36 in. bust. If you are a physically busy person, I suggest a tighter fit to keep the sweater scarf closer to the body and snug.
