After hosting a trunk show of Jaimeson’s Shetland Spindrift earlier this fall, we are simply delighted to announce that Spindrift is here to stay. It is now part of our regular fingering weight line up!
A 2-ply yarn equivalent to a traditional 4-ply, Spindrift is ideal for stranded color work. Spindrift is produced in a rainbow of hues and 25 gram skeins, making it easy to gather the perfect pallet for your next fair isle project. Spindrift’s two-ply construction makes it lightweight and soft, perfect for trapping warmth.
About Jamieson’s and Pure 100% Shetland Wool
In 1978, Jamieson’s experimented with spinning pure Shetland yarn rather than the blended and where finally successful. In 1981, they opened Jamieson’s Spinning, Shetland’s only commercial woollen mill. This unique mill, built in Sandness, completes all the stages of yarn production under one roof. This includes grading, scouring and dyeing fleece before colour blending, carding, spinning, twisting and balling to produce their 100% pure Shetland yarn.
Shetland Sheep are a heritage breed, producing durable and strong fibre with a lot of elasticity and a unique crimp. The wool’s texture provides a lot of loft in finished knitted items. It is light weight but also insulating and warm. It is ideal for fair isle projects and comes in small skeins that you will want to start collecting for colorwork!
