Just Landed – WoolDreamers Mota

A few months ago we brought WoolDreamers into space with the special Dehasa de Barrera, and we have been loving it. This gorgeous super squishy merino is a new favorite for us. This week we welcome WoolDreamers Mota! This Merino is produced with the same spirit of sustainability that drives all of WoolDreamers.
Mota is produced entirely in Castilla-La Mancha and is named after Mota del Cuervo, the hometown of WoolDreamers in Spain. With the aim of supporting small wool producers, WoolDreamers created a collaboration with several local ranching families – each contributing the finest their flock had to offer in order to produce this very special yarn. With the farms and mills so close, Mota has one of the smallest carbon footprints of any yarn.

 

Spun from carefully selected fleeces from each ranch, Mota shows that even the small ranches can produce valuable wools. The resulting yarn is a soft and lofty 3 ply DK to worsted that will give each project a special connection to the origins of their materials.

We swatched Mota on a variety of needle sizes and found that it can be worked as a DK up to a worsted and loves colorwork! Our test knitter reported that it behaves similarly to Lopi yarn but is rounder and significantly softer.  The swatch below is on US#8 needles, but we feel the yarn could be worked up to a #9 or down to a #6-7 as well. There is a slight bounce in the yarn that provides a nice stitch definition, yet is lightweight. This yarn would be great for lace and cables too, as it holds shape and structure well.

We are in love with the bright colors available in these squishy orbs of wool! The color palette is truly amazing.
