Just Landed – Candide from De Rerum Natura

Just Landed – Candide from De Rerum Natura

De Rerum Natura’s Candide has joined its bigger brother Robinson in space and the yarnistas could not be more excited. This fingering weight offering shares technical characteristics with it’s cousin De Rerum’s Ulysse, however Candide’s blend of organic merino and recycled cotton offers a softer and more compact hand. This transitional yarn can be used for a variety of projects written for both fingering a sport gauge. Candide takes its name from Voltaire’s philosophical hero, inviting us to “cultivate our garden” to try and find happiness in an imperfect world.
Much like it’s older brother Robinson, Candide is a blend of organically grown wool from Merino s’Arles sheep and recycled cotton. The cotton is being recycled via a unique process that takes old t-shirts and preserves the length of the fibers. To complete the project, de rerum is using natural dyes on this yarn. Part of the wool is dyed with natural plant extracts (indigo, chestnut, reseda, madder and cochineal) selected for their shade and strength. Two natural colors (“sucre glace” and “nougat”) have been added to the dyed range to highlight the natural colors of this wool.

The just like Robinson, Candide combines the dyed and unbleached yarns are then mixed to create the same delightful 11 color pastel rainbow palette.

Yarnista notes:

This yarn has a smooth, crisp feel in the ball and much like it’s wooly cousin Ulysse, Candide softens when blocked. It can be used for a wide range of patterns written for sport or fingering weight yarns. An ideal yarn for transitional projects that will benefit from the lightness of wool and the coolness of cotton, this yarn will help fill your handmade collection with classic staples that can be worn nearly year round.
