Banff Hat by Tin Can Knits
Each year, I like to choose a versatile pattern and make it again and again for holiday gifts. This year, I chose the Banff Hat by Tin Can Knits. Like all of their patterns, it is sized from Baby to Adult Large, so I can make it for family of all ages. I love the unisex winter design of trees. I’d also been looking for the perfect pattern to show off the beautiful color changes of Spincycle Dream State when paired with a solid contrast color. I loved the effect so much that I knit this hat both ways – with the Dyed in the Wool as the main color, the hat has a beautiful sunset effect; when used as the contrast color, it created the effect of trees changing colors with the seasons. This is a great first colorwork project because it doesn’t have very many long floats! Top it off with a pom pom if you like – Dream State Makes beautiful colorful pom poms! Check out our how-to video on our Youtube Channel.
How I made my hats, shown above:
Left: Adult Small Hat using Spincycle Dream State in “Shades of Earth” and de rerum natura Gilliatt in “Sel.” Topped with pom pom made from Dream State using the Donut Pom Pom Maker.
Right: Child hat using Spincycle Dream State in “Rusted Rainbow” and Berroco Ultra Wool in 3334 Cast Iron. I changed back to the contrast color to do the decrease section of the hat, because I wanted to show off more of the color changes.
