About Lemonade Shop
The woman behind the The Lemonade Shop is Heather Rhoads. She started The Lemonade Shop in 2011, following a career in marketing. But the love of all things colorful began much earlier — back in high school in Illinois. After that stint in marketing, she returned to the creativity that she loves.
“There could be a long drawn out story about how I got started dyeing yarn,” she writes on her website, “but it’s really simple: I love color, I love yarn and I love knitting.
“I also love cake, but I’ll save that for another time.” (We feel you, Heather.)
Now based in Castle Rock, Colorado, The Lemonade Shop is a family affair — her husband works with the shop full time and you’ll find him helping to skein yarn and shipping to get this beautiful yarn in your hands. Her daughter Grace… well mostly right now she’s “looking for bunnies in the bushes or on her headphones ignoring the world like tweens do.” But at least you’ll find them all at the studio!
So where did the name “The Lemonade Shop” come from?
“I first came up with the name when the economy was not doing well and to earn a little bit of extra money I would make amigurumi to sell in local shops while being a stay at home mom,” Heather said via email. “The saying ‘when given lemons, make lemonade’ never was so true. Even though the shop evolved over the years the name stayed the same to remind us where we have been and where we are today.”
