Meet “A Decade in Space.” This limited edition color was produced by Neighborhood Fiber Co in celebration of our 10th birthday. It’s a gorgeous blue with touches of green and speckles if red / coral. This is the first of several limited editions we will launch in the coming days as we head into our birthday month of July.
For over a decade, I have worked with Karida Collins of NFC. Karida and I met at another yarn shop in DC that is now closed. We were both inspired to start our own yarn businesses after working at that shop together. I consider myself pretty lucky to have crossed her path way back then, even if the road to where we are now has been pretty rough. She was one of my first instructors when I started Knit-a-Gogo Inc in 2006. I was her first wholesale client. I carried her yarn around in my trunk, to sell to students for classes I was teaching. When I started to get calls from knitters who wanted to buy her yarn from me (ultimately meeting up with them on the side of the road), I knew that her stuff was pretty special. Traveling to trade shows with her and Olga Buraya-Kefelian was a how I learned a ton about our industry long before I started to write a business plan for this shop. She remains my largest vendor, something that is pretty unique in our industry where typically a yarn shop’s largest vendor is a major national brand like Berroco or Cascade or Ella Rae. She’s created an phenomenal brand, one that has been recognized by Vox, Slate and the New Yorker. She’s an activist, advocate and artist – the best kind of triple threat. This shop wouldn’t be where it is and what it is without Karida Collins.
So now about that yarn…
Studio Worsted remains my most favorite yarn base and the one that I have knitted the most with over the years. I am so delighted to show you all this limited edition color in both Studio Worsted and Studio Sock, dyed by the amazing operation that is Neighborhood Fiber Co and its owner, Karida Collins. Thank you for supporting both of us so much this last decade!
