Tools Tuesday – project bag essentials

This Tools Tuesday is all about project bag essentials that are extremely aesthetically pleasing to boot. Read on to see our picks for the week and some tools we cannot live without lately!

First up we have a new notions case from Geo-Metry. This clever case stows away fickle little notions that have a way of getting lost, like stitch markers or tapestry needles. This leather case is sturdy enough to not get lost and crushed in your purse or project bag and it’s ready to travel! Just stick in your small notions and throw it into your bag; if you’re on the go, the strap can slip on your wrist so you can make on the move. Available in black and tan, $40

We’ve been seeing a lot of sweater makers in the shop lately and one thing to make your sweater knitting a lot more easy is the Stitch Holder Kit from Coco Knits. Gone are the days of stiff stitch holders or fiddly waste yarn; simply screw the needles onto either end of the leather cord and either slip or knit the stitches onto the holder. The needles make it incredibly easy to transfer your stitches and the soft leather cord won’t get in your way as you continue work on your sweater. When you’re ready to pick up your stitches again, simply knit off the holder. The smooth connection between the leather and needle is surprisingly strong and won’t snag your stitches! The cords come in a variety of lengths for different projects! $24.

In the waning days of winter, it feels like your hands get drier than ever. Thankfully, there’s Wax & Wool to the rescue with their Busy Happy Hands salve. This beeswax and shea butter based balm melts onto the skin and makes dry cracks disappear. This is an essential in our project bags as it soothes the skin before knitting and also lets the yarn glide through your fingers so much easier. $12

Little brings more joy to those who work with yarn than a pair of good sharp scissors, there’s something incredibly satisfying about scissors that really just slice through yarn easily. One of our favorite go to scissors are the Yarn Snips from Coco Knits. These are sharp, rustic looking scissors that slice through pretty much anything you put them to. Sharp, aesthetically pleasing and safe to place in your project bag with the leather safety case. $10

Where is any maker without their stitch markers nearby? We love this little pouch of stitch markers from Fringe Supply Co. The petite leather pouch is filled with both round stitch markers for your needle and closure stitch markers for hooking directly onto your work. I love how elegant the pouch looks by itself and how the dainty stitch markers look when you are working with them. Pretty as jewelry and another project bag essential. We have black in stock now. $23

Last on the list for this Tuesday are these leather wrist rulers. Never be stranded without your tape measure again! The wrist rulers are made from a soft leather that softens as you wear it. No one would ever guess that this leather band is actually a really handy tool as well. Marked out in both inches and centimeters-say farewell to not knowing where you are in your project and trying  to eyeball a measurement on the fly. Wear these everyday as jewelry and feel relieved when you don’t have to search through your bag for a tape measure! Available in black, orange and grey and a variety of sizes for different wrists. $20-$25
