New mohair from Manos del Uruguay

New mohair from Manos del Uruguay

I am delighted to tell you about a brand new yarn from Manos del Uruguay! Cabrito is a laceweight yarn of Kid Mohair and Polyamide that is delightful to work with and hand dyed by the fair trade Manos Cooperatives in Uruguay.  Lace Mohair is delightful on its own and fun to use as a carry along with another yarn. See the patterns below for inspiration on how to use it!

Yarn details:

  • 80% kid mohair, 20% polyamide
  • 230 yards per 25 grams
  •  20-26 sts = 4”/10cm on 3-6 US / 3.25-4mm
  • $18

Project inspirations:

Fortunately, there is already a pattern collection available for this wonderfully soft yarn! These patterns are all free from Fairmount Fibers:

The Sea in a Chasm

This one uses Cabrito and Alegria together!  Get the pattern here.

Pangolin Reversible Hat

This hat uses Cabrito and the Silk Blend for a soft and fuzzy hat that is reversible! Get the pattern here.

Jerboa

This shawl uses Cabrito and Marino, another laceweight from Manos. Get the pattern here.

Ambrose

This hat is too cute and so simple. By holding Cabrito with the Alegria Grande, you add a nice halo of softness and color over the thicker Alegria yarn. Get the free pattern here.

Steeplejack Mitts

These sweet mitts would make a wonderful gift and are made using Maxima and Cabrito. Get the pattern here.

Carrots from Mandrakes

This lovely cowl is knitted using only the Cabrito for a light, airy and super soft piece. Get the pattern here.
